Governor Ayo Fayose has claimed to be the “real change”
The slogan used by the All progressive Congress (APC) through out the 2015 general election was “change” which sold out so well.
But Fayose, a strong critic of the APC, appropriated the word on Wednesday when he hosted the teachers at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital
At the event, the governor displayed a poster which bears an inscription “Fayose The Real Change”.
Fayose donated 50 million to the teachers, saying the gift was in recognition of the sound performance of the state in the NECO result that was released.
He ordered that the money be shared equally among the teachers regardless of grade and status and also ask the state accountant general to make sure that all the beneficiaries received their share on or before Friday.
The governor said these gesture was aimed at spurring the teachers onto greater achievement in years to come.
He urged the teachers to make sure their students perform well both in NECO and WAEC in subsequent year.
Apart from the cash gift, two teachers who were considered best in secondary and primary school earn themselves a brand new KIA RIO car while two runner up received 200,00 each and those that came third were given 100,000.
I am doing all of these because Ekiti’s name has been brought to world focus again, and it is my wish that our academic feat will be repeated over and over, after all, to whom much is given much more is required,” he said
Afe Babalola, an erudite lawyer emphasised the importance of a good education in nation building.
Kayode Akosile, chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) urge the government to pay more attention to teachers welfare as an incentive for greater feat.
